CHURCHES AND CHURCH SERVICES
I’ve been a churchgoer for most of my life. No, really. When I was little, my dad took us to church somewhat regularly, and as a result I ended up an ELCA Lutheran, and I still hold many of the core theological beliefs of the Lutheran Church, though I am currently an American Baptist – that’s the goodkind of Baptist, by the way, we’re not scary.
My Home church is Irving Park Baptist Church, where I serve as Director of Worship and Music. We’re a small and friendly multi-racial congregation located at 4401 W Irving Park Road in Chicago, at the corner of Irving and Kostner.
I also serve as Youth Music Director at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Wauconda, IL. They’re a large congregation with a fantastic youth program with many talented people serving in their ministries.
Holy Cross Lutheran in Libertyville, IL is the newest and largest church I am affiliated with. I’ve been there since 2011, serving as their Contemporary Music Director, though I think of it as Director of Post-Modern Worship. I’m privileged to serve alongside Pr Bob Davis, an astounding speaker, and some of the most entertaining volunteer musicians I’ve come across in a church setting.
On Sunday afternoons, no matter where I spent my morning, I perform at facilities for Mather Lifeways, which is a fantastic company for eldercare, rehabilitation, and assisted living. The staff and nurses are always friendly and attentive to the needs of their residents, and I’m quite proud of my continued work with them, providing hymn sings and short church services for their residents, which also gets some attention for Sunday staff that might need a song or a pick-me-up if they couldn’t make it to their home church.
